Put simply ‘Public Island Society’ is about bringing “ISLAND” to the “PUBLIC”. It’s a co-ed brand that brings together the higher end formalities of evening- wear and fuses it with the over relaxed rebelliousness of streetwear while at the same time tying in elements of the designers Polynesian background. Think ‘island’ but push it forward.
Having said that… If we were to delve deeper into what Public Island Society is.
In the mind of the designer, his fascination with other worldly planets comes into play. In other galaxies, rock like exoplanets exist that mimic that of Earth, some larger and even more habitable than that of our planet covered in waters and oceans, similar gases, etc. What if in an imaginary parallel multiverse human life had existed on those planets, what would their lives look like, what would their human evolution look like? What would their 90’s revival fashion look like? what would their 60’s futuristic movement look like? It is a world within the outer world and Public Island Society is what I imagine that world to look like.
